The training ground for an accounting career greatly varies. Sometimes, a degree in accountancy is not needed to be able to land the accounting job. Usually, accountants are evaluated with their length of work experience. Some accounting pre requisites include basic computer lessons in relatively general applications so they can be trained to use these programs which they will greatly use when involved in an accounting job or some related field. Computer classes often need to work with spreadsheets and some accounting softwares like Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks. Microsoft Word is the basic application you should be able to handle comfortably. Essentially, what an accountant needs after this is the aptitude for numbers.

In many public firms, accountants become increasingly responsible for management of other accountants and acquiring new accounts instead of pure accounting work.
Since all of these tasks require a high degree of teamwork, leadership and charisma, the accounting job interview will seek to uncover these attributes in addition to technical accounting skills. For that reason, someone preparing for an accounting job interview needs to spend a little bit of time working on their response to questions outside the realm of accounting. Their first step should be to do some research and discover exactly what the accounting job they are pursuing will consist of, in the short and long term. This research may be done with a combination of published and personal investigation and should uncover four elements; the daily duties, the desired results of the job, the personal characteristics the company desires; and the future career paths available to the position.
on Job Interviews: to lie or not to lie?
Posted by editor on Apr 23, 2008
Some applicants tend to lie during job interviews to come up with a good impression on the employers or when the applicant thinks that being himself is not enough to pass the job interview. Sometimes lying can do help in promoting oneself, it’s more of exaggerating as they say. Exaggerate your potentials, your credibility and qualifications BUT the problem is when the employer finds out about every lie you uttered. It can bring more troubles and hassles if you ask me. And it will be a perfect opportunity to lose all your chance for getting that job you’ve ever wanted. Now that’s too bad.
Follow up note after the Interview
Posted by editor on Apr 6, 2008
After the interview, you can follow up if you want to and this procedure is often ignored. It will serve as a gesture of politeness and not to mention your chance to go over subtlety the things you think you forgot to mention during the interview. In this follow up after the interview, you can send notes to every person who took part in your job interview. You can call the receptionist of the office if you can’t remember the names of each person around. Make sure the note is type-written, concise and direct to the point. Giving out follow up notes cannot have a negative effect on you, in fact it can set you apart from those who did not bother to do it.
Slang Words
Posted by Administrator on Mar 25, 2008
In preparing your resume try not to use “slang words†that are not appropriate to the job you are applying. Use accounting related words and action verbs to describe your accomplishments and skills. The content of your accounting resume depends on how you described yourself as an applicant. Maximize your sentences effectively and use accounting related words. In addition, use of headings and key words also add weight in describing your skills. Remember that you are applying as either an accountant or bookkeeper, etc., so don’t waste your time trying to find grammatically correct terms for your accounting skills.
Not too important

We all know that emphasizing on some facts in your resume truly helps in making it more saleable. But, don’t you know that you can also de-emphasize some of the information that were also relevant in your resume and can take a backseat. And these are: education, some non-accounting skills and extra-curricular activities. You don’t have to worry if these things were at the bottom of your resume because what are important were the accomplishments you emphasized and you want the reader/interviewer to focus on them instead of asking you about your extra-curricular activities.
Career Objective
Posted by Administrator on Mar 15, 2008
In writing your accounting resume, you should be able to state your career objective first before you jot down other important facts. It’s a plus if you make it short but shows what you really aspire from the job you are applying for. Once you;re done with the objective, it’s now time for you to specify what other related facts you intend to highlight such as; writing down dates of your employment, when did you received your certification, trainings attended and career advancement/promotions. In accounting, numbers outweighs words but using descriptive action verbs in writing your resume will greatly help your reader to notice what an outstanding applicant you are.
What are the contents of an Accounting Resume?
Posted by Administrator on Mar 1, 2008
Accounting resume must contain relevant informations such as: analysis experience, operations management skills and fiscal expertise. Moreover, you should also highlight the milestones you achieved like; organized accounting practices, managed debts and increased revenues (include the numbers if you may). Furthermore, don’t forget to include your career objective, also be brief and concise because you may want to elaborate on these things during the actual interview. Including other skills such as being computer literate adds more weight to your qualifications. Your resume should reflect all of these characteristics so that employers will easily spot the difference.
